نامه عمادالدین باقی به فرانسوا اولاند : مردم ایران اصلاح را برای تغییر ترجیح می دهند .  مردم ایران در انتخابات ریاست جمهوری سال ۹۲نشان دادند که علیرغم همه رنج‌ها و مشقت‌‌هایشان هنوز روش‌های اعتدالی و اصلاحی را برای تغییر وضعیت در ایران ترجیح می‌دهند وجریانات تندرو و اقتدارگرا در داخل ایران و جریانات رادیکال و سرنگونی طلب خارج از ایران را نفی می‌کنند. متن فارسی و انگلیسی نامه «عماد الدین باقی» به «فرانسوا اولاند» رئیس جمهور فرانسه در ادامه می آید :
من به عنوان یک فعال و پژوهشگر حقوق بشر که با برخی نهادهای حقوق بشری و غیر دولتی کشور شما نیز همکاری دیرینه دارم از مواضع اخیر کشور شما در مذاکرات ۵+۱ متعجب و نگران شدم که برخلاف مواضع همه کشور‌ها و حتی آمریکا در مذاکرات بود. علاوه بر این، باز هم بعنوان یک فعال حقوق بشر، از شما می‌خواهم که در تصمیم خود در جلوگیری از تفاهم در جهت اولین قدم برای ایجاد اعتماد به صلح امیز بودن برنامه هسته‌ای ایران و در نهایت رفع تحریم‌های اقتصادی و فنی و علمی برای ایران بازنگری فرمایید.
اگرچه رابطه فرایند مذاکرات هسته‌ای را غیر مرتبط با دغدغه‌های یک فعال حقوق بشر بدانید اما از نظر من و بسیاری از فعالان حقوق بشر، ادامه یا توسعه تحریم‌ها موجب وسیع‌ترین نوع نقض حقوق بشر و شهروندی ایرانیان است. من به عنوان کسی که از [...] نقض حقوق انسانی و شهروندی رنجورم و با تلاشهای شبانه روزی در حال مقابله با آن هستم و مدام در این راه هزینه پرداخت کرده و تحت تاثیر مستقیم فشارهای سیاسی و اقتصادی هستم، همراه با دیگر فعالان حقوق بشر بدون شک بیش از کسان دیگر درک می‌کنم که باید تغییرات و اصلاحات جدی در داخل ایران صورت گیرد هرچند معتقد نیستیم این تنها ایران است که باید در سیاست‌های داخلی و بین المللی خود دست به اصلاحات و تغییرات بزند و بسیاری از کشورهای منطقه و جهان از جمله برخی کشورهای غربی هم نیازمند این اقدامات هستند اما سخن اصلی من با شما این است که بهبود وضعیت حقوق بشر از طریق فلج سازی و نابودی اقتصاد یک کشور و فقیر کردن مردم آن حاصل نمی‌شود. افزون بر این، مسلما شما باید با من هم عقیده باشید که تشویق دولت جدید اهل گفتگو و مصالحه به ادامه این راه برای وضعیت حقوق بشر مفید‌تر از تشدید انزوا است .

من به عنوان کسی که دریافت مدال کمیسیون ملی حقوق بشر فرانسه در سال ۲۰۰۵ را جزو افتخارات زندگی خود می‌داند از شما درخواست می‌کنم فارغ از تاثیرات مواضع جریانات رادیکال در خاورمیانه، روند مهم تحولات اخیر ایران را مد نظر قرار دهید. مردم ایران همواره نسبت به فرانسه نگاهی مثبت داشته‌اند. نباید این حسن ظن را قربانی جلب نظر تندرو‌ها کرد.

Letter to French President Hollande on Iran Nuclear Talks

Dear President Hollande,
As a human rights activist and researcher that has for long cooperated with some of your country’s non-governmental human rights institutions, I write to express my surprise and dismay at your government’s recent position in the talks between P5+1 and Iran which was against the position of all other countries at the talks, including even the United States. Furthermore, again in my capacity as a human rights activist, I would like to urge you to reconsider the decision by your government to prevent the initiation of a first step in the process of building confidence in the peacefulness of Iran’s nuclear program and eventual ending of economic, technical, and scientific sanctions against Iran.
Although you may not find connection between nuclear talks and the concerns of a human rights activist, but from my viewpoint and the point of view of many other human rights activists in Iran, the continuation and expansion of sanctions are causing the most extensive violations of human and citizenship rights in Iran. As a human rights activist who is [...] and spends his days and nights trying to change the situation, paying heavy costs and facing tremendous economic and political pressures, I along with other human rights activists in Iran surely understand and feel better than anyone else the need for substantive reform in my country, even if we also know that Iran is not the only country that should engage in serious reform in its internal affairs and international relations and many other countries, in the region and the world, including in the West, should also engage in similar acts. But my main message to you is that improvements in human rights cannot be achieved when attempts are being made to paralyze and destroy the country’s economy and impoverish the Iranian people. Furthermore, surely you must agree that encouraging a government that is interested in dialogue and reconciliation to continue this course will also have much better results for human rights than forcing the increased isolation of the country.
In the 2013 presidential election, the people of Iran made clear that despite all their trials and difficulties they continue to prefer moderation and gradual reform, rejecting both domestic forces pushing Iran towards extremism and external players keen on radical regime change. Your government’s decision to block the conciliatory efforts of the new Iranian government is not only a rejection of the popular will in Iran but will also unwillingly smooth the path for the unwritten alliance of extremist and authoritarian forces inside Iran and external radical forces bent on destabilizing the country. It makes the task of Iran’s human rights activists even harder.
As a very proud recipient of the French National Consultative Commission on Human Rights Award (2005), I urge you to ignore the voices of extremism that are plaguing the Middle East region and give due attention to the very important changes that the recent election in Iran has wrought. The people of Iran have always deemed France in a positive light. This goodwill should not be sacrificed for the benefit of extremists.
